Spring 2011 Galaxy Fashion Trend Alert!
Get your head out of the clouds…and move beyond into the stars! Take a tour of the galaxy, soar past Mars, and flip circles around Uranus. Get inspired by Halley’s Comet, funneling black holes, and brightly lit stars. After your jaunt in the outer limits of space, venture back home, and settle back to reality. You’ll hold fond memories and you’ll miss the experience but rest assured you’ll have something to remember it by.
Clothes and jewelry wrapped in stars and galaxy-like prints are popping up in spring collections. Christopher Kane’s 2011 resort is brimming with celestial prints on dresses, skirts, cardigans, and skirts. They’re dark and mysterious yet playful and explorative. I’d love to dress one of my brothers in Kane’s button up men’s sweater with evening skies and shiny bright stars but I’m afraid they aren’t that adventurous. Read more
Tattoos as Fashion Accessories?
Ever since Kelly Osborne announced that she regretted all of her tattoos and would be pursuing laser removal, I got to thinking about tattoos in fashion. As someone who has a total of seven tattoos (and counting!), I was a little insulted that she would make it such a big deal as to announce it in the press, etc (I mean you do know that you are Ozzy Osborne’s daughter right?!). In my experience, I completely understand that tattoos are not for everyone, but one should never degrade those who do have them, because for most of us they are our personal little fashion statements! They generally are something of meaning for those of us who have them, and I love the way they look with my outfits! So in the spirit of things, I thought we would check out some cool girls in Hollywood that have them, and the meaning behind it all!
Megan Fox has nine tattoos in all, with the pictured one saying, ‘We will all laugh at gilded butterflies’. This Shakespeare quote is really beautiful and must have contain some sort of other meaning for her. So pretty! We then have Evan Rachel Wood, who actually has quite a few but I couldn’t stumble upon an exact number, and her script of choice. ‘All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream’. This quote from a Beatles song is positioned very nicely on her back below her neck and I think describes her personality rather well. Read more
Stripes and Brights: How to Rock it
In case you didn’t know, color is definitely the new black and stripes are totally in for the upcoming Spring 2011 season. Unfortunately, sometimes both can be a little bit difficult to master without looking tacky and like a clown, rather than glamorous. I have gone through many not-so-cute days trying to incorporate these trends into my outfits and failing miserably – I’m sure I made a few worst dressed lists! But I will never let anything come between me and fashion, especially not those stripes or brights! After all of my middle school years thinking that it was cool to wear bright purple and a loud orange on the same day, I have finally developed a good relationship with stripes and brights and now have fun and love wearing them (not to mention look cute while doing so)! Spring Trend Alert! Faux Bois!
Calling all rugged-outdoorsy women! You can no longer claim that fashion has nothing to offer you; some designers have your tree-hugging taste in mind this spring. Faux Bois – fashion that is earth-toned and woodsy in appearance – is a major trend trampling the runway this season and fortunately, not in the ultra-plain, hippy way you’d expect when you think of browns, greens and creams.
Kate and Laura Mulleavy of the brand, Rodarte, are gallantly leading the way with the ultimate faux bois collection. Gaining inspiration from their childhood backyard, the duo crafted some truly unique pieces. A grass green, leaf-like tank paired with a trunk-inspired, long, tiered brown skirt was the epitome of shrub-inspired. Designs like that one and the sleeveless turtleneck, peek-a-boo dress with a ruffled over, “wood paneled” skirt are a couple of the more obvious outfits blatantly screaming nature’s word. Read more
Spring 2011 Trend Alert: Long Skirts
Mad Men had been in my NetFlix queue for quite some time but for some reason I kept pushing it back for other shows like Ugly Betty and Samantha Who (both of which were awesome series). Last month the 1960’s sexy drama about the cutthroat men and women of Madison Avenue advertising finally made it into my mailbox. After which, of course, you had to pry me away from the TV with a crowbar; the show is that good.
As if the plot and smoking hot characters weren’t already enough, fashionistas get an added bonus; the fashion is really, really (really!) fun to see. So fun, in fact, that some believe a lot of designers have inspired certain trends around. One in particular stands out this spring: the long skirt. Hems have fallen far below the knees and in a lot of cases, to floor length. Read more
Do You Dig The Flared Denim Look?
A really great pair can completely transform your body, I’m sure that we all have at least dozen in our closets, and when you find a pair with the absolute perfect combination of fit, rise, and wash it immediately becomes your new best friend. Yes, I am talking about jeans! Jeans are such a huge staple in most people’s wardrobes and can really be worn to achieve so many different looks through dressing them up or dressing them down. This spring, it is all about the flared and wide-legged look. I remember back in the day when these were popular and everyone almost freaked at the idea of skinny jeans when they came on the scene. And now, I really don’t know if I will ever be able to completely trade in my skinnies for some flares. But I will definitely be able to make some room in my closet for some looser jeans with the fabulous roundup of stylish and chic wide-legged jeans offered by many denim labels from Gap to 7 For All Mankind to Rich&Skinny. Trend Alert: All Laced Up
When I think of lace, words like flirty, feminine, romantic, and chic all pop into my head. With adjectives like that, it only makes sense that lace is one of my favorite trends to wear. Designers showcased tons of lace creations on the runway for the upcoming spring and summer seasons, which can only mean one thing: the lace trend is in full bloom. Lucky for me, designers have incorporated this trend into just about every garment or accessory possible from shoes and handbags to shorts and dresses. One of the greatest things about lace is just how versatile it can be. It looks gorgeous on its own, but also works very nicely when combined with other fabrics as well. There are also many different styles and patterns of lace, each bringing out a different style or feel than the next. Read more
Style Trend! Amalia Mattaör – The Dancing Bags
Calling all of my dancing fashionistas! There may just be an answer from the fashion gods to one of the biggest problems that we all face when hitting the town for a night of dancing fun. And by problem I mean the unfortunate annoying-ness that comes along with having to hold on to a clutch all night or having a purse loosely dangle from your arm. Soon-to-be lucky us, because the designer Amalia Mattaör has created a line of Strapless Shoulder Bags that are redesigned for dancing, hence the collection’s name “The Dancing Bags”. These bags conform to your body and wrap around your arm, an ingenious idea that is perfect for a fun night out. Read more
