Spring Trends
My Spring 2011 Fashion Favorites
I’ll admit that while I follow trends extensively for the blogs that I write for and my own intense personal interest, I don’t adopt as many as you would imagine. Even for someone such as myself, who is pursuing fashion as a career, can’t have them all; there simply isn’t enough time and resources. I choose my purchases wisely and while I’m prone (like most people) to indulge in a little impulse buying, I try to keep my trendiness to a happy middle ground.
With that being said, there’s no doubt that I have my favorites this spring, some of which I own and others that I aspire to. I recently bought a pair of high-waisted, flare legged jeans, shelving my skinny jeans for the moment to give this hot new trend a go. I personally love this look paired with a billowy blouse, tucked in with a colorful thin belt. Speaking of thin belts, I’ve strayed from my typical chunky belts for a more hip-hugging, slender variety which was a heavy staple throughout Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks. Read more
Practical Spring 2011 Fashion Trends
When I began to make a list of all the trends we’re being blessed with this spring my head started spinning. There were too many to go through which can be disheartening when you’re a fashion freak like I am. Luckily, there’s really only a handful that I could see myself realistically wearing, especially in a city like San Francisco.
Since we don’t really ever get a true, long-stretching summer, owning light-weight jackets to layer with is essential. The 60’s inspired, colorful coats we’re seeing are a great way to help get through those pesky Bay Area micro climates. Military-inspired jackets are a practical and stylish choice; a lot of the designs can last through many seasons and they’re typically color neutral. Read more
Donna Karan Spring 2011 RTW Reviewed
I’ve always associated Donna Karan with something a mother would wear or maybe a classy aunt. Perhaps it’s due to my freshly 30 status but I’m beginning to understand why her designs have not only thrived but stood the test of time. While her Spring RTW 2011 collection isn’t exactly what I’d identify as my style, it’s certainly made an impression.
Without a splash of bold color in sight, Karan opted for neutrality, comfort, and crinkled-chic, a far cry from the choices of Prada and Louis Vuitton. The hues ranged from cream to sand, taupe to camel, tan to gold, and brown to browner; a simplistic girls dream. Images of deserts, sandy beaches, and wild safaris immediately come to mind. It’s enough to make even the most sedentary of people want to jump up and book their next vacation. Read more

Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2011 RTW Reviewed
The new Tommy Hilfiger ads are doing a great job at piquing interest. I for one had all but forgotten about the brand until they came out with their “Meet the Hilfiger’s” campaign. I love the picture of the old school station wagon stuffed to the brim with sports materials and camping gear with an adorable dog in the front seat. I’m also fond of the ad with an orgy of people lounging around on the tennis court looking very Richie Tenenbaum-like.
They’ve definitely revitalized the brand in my eyes which got me intrigued about their Spring 2011 collection. Their signature look hasn’t changed much, you’re always going to get conservative, country club-inspired clothes with TH; lets’ face it, their designs are every preppy girl/guy’s dream. They’re not exactly my style but I have to admit, there were definitely some pieces this season that I could see myself integrating into my wardrobe. Read more
Spring 2011 Trends for Your Body Type
Let’s put aside the latest trends and the seasonal must-haves and focus on one of the most important things when it comes to your style and looking your best: knowing how to dress for your body type. Dressing for your proportions will never go out of style and it will ensure that you are looking great no matter what. I always try to incorporate the latest trends into my wardrobe in a way that they will work for my style and for my body. It is all about finding the current trends and making them update your wardrobe, while transforming and flattering your figure. Here is a breakdown of how to wear a spring trend while making it work for you.
If you have a petite body frame, I would go with a dress that has a short hemline and a cinched waist. There were tons of tie-waisted dresses seen on the runways which would look great with your small frame, or you could also create a cinched waist with a skinny belt (another hot item for spring). I would pair this look with a fitted blazer that doesn’t reach below your waist and a pair of nude heels, perfect for elongating your legs. Read more
Spring 2011 Fashion Trends Must-Haves
The rainy weather in San Francisco has me dreaming and hoping of the spring sunshine that is just behind those clouds. I can not wait for the morning that I can wake up and reach for my strappy wedges and silk blazer, rather than my rainboots and wool coat. With all the chilly weather keeping me indoors, I have had lots of time to dream up my perfect spring-time wardrobe. Here are my ultimate Spring 2011 must-haves. Read more
Christopher Kane Spring 2011 RTW Reviewed
As I flipped through my Elle magazine a few months back, I distinctly remember seeing Christopher Kane’s fluorescent lime, pseudo-lace suit grace one of their features. After bearing witness to one minimalistic ensemble after the next, one neutral hue paired with additional neutral hues; like Miuccia Prada’s spring collections (including Miu Miu), I was invigorated by the vivacity of his designs.
What appears like a plethora of lace suits is actually leather with a vinyl coating. At a mere glance you’d never know and there’s something quite fabulous about that fact; it plays into the overall festiveness of the collection. Neon skirts, jackets and dresses – some with playful and intricate patterns and others with unified color – dominated the runway; there wasn’t a single pantsuit or pair of shorts to be seen. Read more
