The Shoe Genius: Christian Louboutin

The Shoe Genius: Christian Louboutin

Now we all know how the saying goes: diamonds are a girl’s best friend. For me diamonds are a good friend, but my best friend? Shoes, of course. And make that Christian Louboutin shoes to be exact. In my dream world, I would have a closet full devoted to his magical and transforming creations. For now, I just get to lust from afar, but in the meantime let’s take a look at how the shoe genius came to be.

One of the things that makes Christian Louboutin so interesting is the fact that he got his start as an apprentice in the dressing rooms of Paris’ famous cabaret the Folies Bergère. He was extremely inspired by showgirls and wanted to make shoes that would make their legs look amazing, but also that the girls felt comfortable wearing. He was only seventeen years old when he began that apprenticeship and now he has become a regular on the red carpet worn by celebrities and on every fashionista’s wish list. Read more

Springtime Shoes: Put Your Best Heel Forward

Springtime Shoes: Put Your Best Heel Forward

And here we go again ladies, a brand new season to fall in love with shoes all over again! And spring 2011 will definitely not be disappointing your shoe hungry feet with all of the amazing heels soon to be offered. With models falling due to their sky-high stilettos at the Spring 2011 shows (ahem, Burberry and Zac Posen) and with Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz actually scratching many of the heels to be worn during his runway because the models were unable to walk in them, did we really expect anything short of spectacular, a tad scary, and oh-so-hot? Already impressive, there were architectural influences present in so many of the heels, with their extreme structure and form – just like wearable pieces of art! Read more

Spring 2011 Trend Alert! Flat Platform Shoes!

Spring 2011 Trend Alert! Flat Platform Shoes!

As somebody who greatly struggles in anything higher than a 1-inch heel, I’ll be the first to admit that I was intrigued by this new “flatform” trend taking shape on the runways. It seems as though you get the best of both worlds: great height and comfort. Without that steep incline a woman is sure to feel some relief because I don’t care what anyone says; it’s hard to tackle the world in 4-inch stilettos, especially when you live in a city like San Francisco where you’re required to walk everywhere.

Shoe designers across the world perpetually struggle with finding the delicate balance between sky-high heels and wearability. It appears that a few have found a potential solution with these designs; elevate the height and not the incline. The problem is – granted, this is my humble opinion – they’re ugly…UGLY! Mind you, like any trend there are some styles that look better than others but they’re few and far between, just like the amount of people who will probably end up buying these. Read more

How to maintain comfort in high heels

How to maintain comfort in high heels

Being a woman and wearing high heels seems inevitable.  There aren’t too many times in our life where we don’t find ourselves in them.  For many of us it is an every day occurrence and for others it happens a few times a month. Needless to say they are out there and we just love to wear them!

Lets talk comfort. Unless your high heel is under 2inches you probably do not experience much pain when wearing your shoes. I’m talking about those fabulous 4inch stilettos that look so good but hurt so much. How do you deal with the discomfort? Read more

Pretty Shoes for New Years Eve

Pretty Shoes for New Years Eve

Let’s just say that I will never ever need an excuse to buy a new pair of shoes, but I will also never pass one up. Any excuse is a good excuse to go shoe shopping and  even the bad excuses help soothe my worried looks when I have no more room for shoes in my closet or when I receive those pesky monthly credit card statements. While it seems I’ll certainly accept any reason to indulge in more candy for my feet, one of my absolute favorites is a holiday party or New Years’ Eve. While there’s not much we can do about a bad food selection at these cheerful get-to-togethers (fruit cake, anyone?), we can definitely keep up our holiday spirits with a stunning new pair of heels that look as if they dropped straight out of footwear heaven. Put your best foot forward in my top three favorite holiday shoe styles: Read more

Jimmy Choo glam in UGG Boots?

Jimmy Choo glam in UGG Boots?

When I first found out earlier this year that Jimmy Choo and UGG were teaming up to design a collection, I wasn’t sure what to think or expect – should I be excited or should I be scared? UGG Australia and Jimmy Choo unveiled their limited edition collaboration this month. The collection is based on the classic UGG boot silhouette with a glamorous Jimmy Choo twist and perfectly embodies the spirit of both brands. Five different styles are available in several color variations and are a bit expensive with a price tag between $495 to $795. They can be found only at Jimmy Choo and UGG Australia stores and on their websites, as well as a few high-end specialty department stores.

Commenting on the collaboration, Tamara Mellon, President and Founder of Jimmy Choo, quoted, “Other than Jimmy Choo, UGG Australia is the only other footwear I have in my wardrobe. We are delighted to have created a special capsule that captures the best of both brands – the legendary comfort of UGG with the spirit of Jimmy Choo.”

Now I know that for some of us UGGS are the shoe that we all love to hate. I will admit, I own a few pairs because they truly are the most comfortable shoe I have ever walked in, but they are strictly for wearing inside my apartment only and to help recover the damage I have put my feet through with the stilettos the night before.

Tamara has truly glammed up her UGGS with studs, stars, and fringing. I like Jimmy Choo and I like UGGS for their comfort, but I have not yet decided how I feel about this interesting collaboration. But with that price tag, this collection is out of my price range. Will any of you be adding these boots to your Christmas list?
