Classic Style: Joan Crawford and Elizabeth Taylor
The look of the classic Hollywood starlet is a timeless thing. There has never been an era of fashion since its inception in the early part of the 20th century that didn’t draw inspiration from the style. Today I’ll detail two celebrities, Joan Crawford and Elizabeth Taylor, and what you can do to add in some elements of their fashion and style to your modern outfits.

My Spring 2011 Fashion Favorites
I’ll admit that while I follow trends extensively for the blogs that I write for and my own intense personal interest, I don’t adopt as many as you would imagine. Even for someone such as myself, who is pursuing fashion as a career, can’t have them all; there simply isn’t enough time and resources. I choose my purchases wisely and while I’m prone (like most people) to indulge in a little impulse buying, I try to keep my trendiness to a happy middle ground.
With that being said, there’s no doubt that I have my favorites this spring, some of which I own and others that I aspire to. I recently bought a pair of high-waisted, flare legged jeans, shelving my skinny jeans for the moment to give this hot new trend a go. I personally love this look paired with a billowy blouse, tucked in with a colorful thin belt. Speaking of thin belts, I’ve strayed from my typical chunky belts for a more hip-hugging, slender variety which was a heavy staple throughout Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks. Read more
Spring 2011 Trend Alert: That 70’s Runway
I got into That 70’s Show at the tail end of its reign. The first time I watched it I wasn’t sold but as I stumbled upon it time and time again; it started to really grow on me. Donna, Jackie, Steven, Kitty, Kelso and who could forget, the foreign exchange student, Fez; they entertained me with their witty banter and of course, the fashion!
It was particularly fun for me to see the different 70’s styles that they featured on the show. When it ended in 2006, I secretly wished that a chicer version of the bell-bottom would come back into vogue. My prayers have been answered (only 5 years later) because 70’s inspired garments are disco-dancing their way down the spring/summer runway. Read more
Fall 2011 New York Fashion Week Favorites
With Milan and London Fashion Week already in full swing, I’m still thinking and lusting over what I saw at New York Fashion Week Fall 2011. With the summer weather not even kicking in yet, I am already fantasizing about a new winter wardrobe. Looking back at my favorite shows, I was captivated by several collections instantly due to the immense detailing, fun accessories, eccentric prints, and luxe fabrics.
A favorite collection of mine is Marc Jacobs. I fell in love with the repeating polka-dot motif, which was used in all different sizes and textures. His combination of textures was so interesting, mixing shiny, matte, rough, and smooth. Some of his polka-dotted skirts even looked as if they were completely made out of over-sized sequins. He featured a lot of pencil skirts with baggy and boxy tops, which I thought was an interesting contrast. Yet, the best thing about this show were the accessories! There were lots of polka-dot tights, mini berets, polka-dot gloves, and rubber snow boots. Read more

Best and Worst Fashion on the SAG 2011 Red Carpet
The sun made a fashionably late appearance on the red carpet at this year’s Screen Actors Guild awards, brightening the early morning gloom and allowing celebs to work their red carpet attire worry free. The SAG awards is my favorite red carpet show to watch because the dress code is always slightly more relaxed then say, the Academy Awards, so we get to see a little more personality showing through in what celebs decide to wear. Although there were quite a few fashionable hits and daring misses this year, after intensely watching the red carpet show and eyeing the up close shots on the wonderful internet, I was able to narrow what, in my opinion, were the three best and three worst looks of the night.

Neckware for Spring 2011: Make it Chunky!
Not being much of an accessories person myself, I was surprised at how much I am loving this chunky necklace trend. Perhaps it’s because this trend focuses mainly on minimalism, which when it comes to jewelry, I am a fan of. Even if you are sporting a basic tee shirt and jeans, throw on one of these oversized necklaces and you have instant sophistication and fashion prowess! Mostly, these types of necklaces are of the longer varietal, and should not necessarily be worn with much other jewelry or super bright colors; but hey if you are a fashion risk taker, than layer to your hearts desire! Yes, everywhere from the high fashion couture runways, to walking around right in front of us on the streets of San Francisco, this trend is everywhere, and this is a good one to get on board with!
