Up-and-Coming Fashion Designers

Up-and-Coming Fashion Designers

You’ll be hard pressed to find a fashionista out there who doesn’t love an epic designer staple. Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Prada and Kate Spade are powerhouses in the industry, perpetually proving themselves time and again with flawless bags, impeccable garments, and jaw-dropping jewelry. We rely on them because we know we can trust their product and look fierce rockin’ it down the city streets of New York.

With that said, Louis Vuitton wasn’t always the multi-billion dollar company it is today. At one point they were a meager business specializing in flat-bottom trunks. Little did they know they would be one of the most influential design houses on the planet! That’s why it’s particularly important to pay attention to our up-and-coming talent; the new comers ready to take the fashionable bull by the horns and work.it.out. As fashion lovers and industry insiders, it’s our duty to expose and promote these folks because if they’re as successful as we hope they’ll be, we’ll be wearing their work for years to come. Watch Fashion Trends 2011

Tick, tock, tick, tock…can you feel the time slipping through your pretty manicured fingers? I often found myself in a state of shock when I hadn’t checked the time after hours of work or play (more often play); I would suddenly realize it was much later than I had anticipated and felt as though the day had completely run away from me. It was after the millionth time that happened when I finally realized I needed a watch – a good one that looks fabulous with everything and most importantly, keeps me on time to things. Read more

We Love Louis Vuitton!

We Love Louis Vuitton!

Louis Vuitton is a household name. Folks who own one (or more) of his impeccable bags wear it with pride and those who have yet to own one, aspire to. The name Louis Vuitton is synonymous with class, extravagance, quality, and high-fashion. Qualities that are well earned and backed by decades of history.

LV was started in 1854 in Paris, France. It started out purely as a luxury luggage company, filling a void for less cumbersome travel trunks at the time. As his brand gained notoriety, he expanded, advancing his collections into the merchandise we see today with monogrammed canvas and bags like the Keepall. By 1914 LV had locations world wide. Paris Fashion Week Fall 2011 Highlights

Paris Fashion Week Fall 2011 Highlights

Looking at Paris Fashion Week Fall 2011, I was captivated by several of the collections and I fell in love with my favorite and beloved designers all over again. Karl Lagerfeld has never disappointed me and he amazed me again this season. Chanel had a very dark and dramatic feeling to it and also appeared to be menswear-inspired. I loved the combination of grunge mixed in with the polished tweeds, as well as the combination of the androgynous elements combined with shredded chiffons and distressed leggings. There was cropped and cuffed trousers, which I took notice to because I loved the combination of the slim pant-leg with a huge folded-over cuff.

Another collection that I always love every season is Dior. The color palette was filled with rich jewel tones such as emerald greens, sapphire blues, and dark amethysts. There were lots of layers and combinations of lavish textures like velvets, furs, cashmeres, and leathers. Long capes draped over the models and their faces were hidden with huge, floppy hats. Spring 2011 Trend Alert: Long Skirts

Mad Men had been in my NetFlix queue for quite some time but for some reason I kept pushing it back for other shows like Ugly Betty and Samantha Who (both of which were awesome series). Last month the 1960’s sexy drama about the cutthroat men and women of Madison Avenue advertising finally made it into my mailbox. After which, of course, you had to pry me away from the TV with a crowbar; the show is that good.

As if the plot and smoking hot characters weren’t already enough, fashionistas get an added bonus; the fashion is really, really (really!) fun to see. So fun, in fact, that some believe a lot of designers have inspired certain trends around. One in particular stands out this spring: the long skirt. Hems have fallen far below the knees and in a lot of cases, to floor length. Read more

Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 Ready To Wear Reviewed

Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 Ready To Wear Reviewed

There’s nothing like starting out the New Year with a bang and it’s clear that Louis Vuitton was aiming for a tsunami-like impact on his admirers. Vuitton’s Fall 2010 collection showcased minimalism at its finest, which I realize now was just a priming to unveil what awaited us in the spring.

Like a quick, massive wave hitting an oblivious, thick sanded beach, Vuitton’s Spring 2011 designs wash over you with a ferocity and extravagance that feels out of the blue. Completely turning his back on last season’s muted, simplistic designs; bright colors, sex appeal, decadence and orientalism fiercely stepped in. Read more
