Chanel Spring 2011 Ready To Wear Reviewed

Witnessing Karl Lagerfeld’s genius first hand is something few can say they’ve experienced. The fortunate ones such as A-list celebrities and industry powerhouses are often seen sitting prettily with a front row view; the rest of us are left to observe his finished product through the narrow perspective of a photographer’s camera lens. Sometime photos do the designs justice and other times I’m left feeling as though I’ve been epically slighted.

This was exactly the case as I squinted and scrutinized the details of Lagerfeld’s, Chanel Spring 2011 collection on the web. The set, which paid homage to the seventeenth-century garden designer, Andre Le Notre, was barely visible behind the model’s slender silhouette; which would leave anyone feeling as though they were missing a giant piece to the puzzle. Nonetheless, it was easy to see that the backdrop provided a perfect environment for both classic and colorful ensembles alike – one a stark contrast and the other blending beautifully. Read more

Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 Ready To Wear Reviewed

There’s nothing like starting out the New Year with a bang and it’s clear that Louis Vuitton was aiming for a tsunami-like impact on his admirers. Vuitton’s Fall 2010 collection showcased minimalism at its finest, which I realize now was just a priming to unveil what awaited us in the spring.

Like a quick, massive wave hitting an oblivious, thick sanded beach, Vuitton’s Spring 2011 designs wash over you with a ferocity and extravagance that feels out of the blue. Completely turning his back on last season’s muted, simplistic designs; bright colors, sex appeal, decadence and orientalism fiercely stepped in. Read more

Vera Wang Spring 2011 RTW Fashion Show Reviewed

When I was a wee little girl you’d never find me sitting around, dreaming of my wedding day. I didn’t act out the wedding march, or put a pretend veil in my hair and Barbie and Ken were single as far as I was concerned. As I got older, that didn’t really change. At 29, daydreaming about my big day is still not something I tend to partake in much. However, that all goes out the window at the mere utterance of one woman: Vera Wang

Whenever I think of her my mind automatically drifts to impeccable wedding gowns and future nuptials. But every so often I’m reminded that she’s got major talent that reaches far beyond tumbling white dresses and managing bridezillas. Her spring 2011 collection snapped me back in to the bigger picture. A big panoramic picture that’s a far cry from the wedding dress she designed for Chelsea Clinton. Read more

Chloe Spring 2011 Ready To Wear Reviewed

Chloe Spring 2011 Ready To Wear Reviewed

There was a time when all I knew of the brand Chloe was that I loved their handbags. My perpetually stylish friend walked into dinner carrying a classy cream tote with gold hardware, sassily interrupted by a few edgy zippers and I nearly lost my head with envy. It took every ounce of my moralistic being not to swipe it off her arm and run out of the restaurant all, Shooter McGavin-style from Happy Gillmore (when he crazily steals Happy’s jacket and runs down the green – haven’t seen it? Watch it, NOW).

That night spurred my interest and as I did some poking around on the web I realized that there was much more to the brand than amazing bags. I knew that they designed luxury clothes and that traditionally, they’ve taken on a bohemian/street-chic vibe, but I never knew it could work with my style which is less minimalist and more maximum-ist. Yet, there I was, plotting out how I was going to afford a pair of their flowing nude slacks. Read more

Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2011 Ready To Wear Reviewed

Spring is in the air. Flowers are in bloom. The sun is shining bright. Shoulders and knees are exposed. It’s the perfect time for a leisurely picnic in the park. Well, not literally I suppose because I’m freezing my bullocks off here in San Francisco but definitely on the catwalk. Most poignantly, with D&G’s, Spring 2011 RTW collection.

Imagine if you will a gorgeous wood-slatted path through a forest of blooming flowers, ferns and lush shrubbery. Now imagine that trail full of marching statuesque models with long stems, adorned head-to-toe in country-chic floral prints, platform heels, jumpers and gigantic bold totes. This is the picture that D&G painted for his loyal followers with this collection. Read more

ETRO Spring 2011 Ready-To-Wear Fashion Review

ETRO Spring 2011 Ready-To-Wear Fashion Review

For a long time Etro was just another brand I filed under my, too-expensive-to-bother, file. Gorgeous clothes, shoes and accessories but with Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman prices. The brand’s steep cost hasn’t changed but my attitude certainly has; they’ve made it easy to ignore silly issues like money when they crank out such magnificent designs like those in their Spring 2011 RTW. They’re enough to make even the most tight-fisted cheapskate drop a couple grand.

Etro’s spring line is brilliantly vibrant and anything but the simplistic trend we’ve been seeing so much of. It has an over-the-top Versace quality to it and when viewed next to designers such as Chloe or Bottega Veneta, slightly resembles a traveling circus act; a really successful, magnificent, mind blowing and fashionable circus act.
