Love, Zooey

Love, Zooey

While most of us love a good casual find, some of us have gotten it wrong a time or two.  And with today’s flux in hipster fashion trends, it is no wonder we have trouble finding a look that combines comfort with chic.

Los Angeles designers Grace Chon and Alice Heller have created the ideal combination with Love, Zooey – a fashion line that incorporates holiday knits with comfortable fabric like wool, silk, and jersey.  Love, Zooey’s spring line features ripe colors with neon accents.  Both collections include items that can be casually worn on a clear sunny day, or stylishly rocked on a girl’s night out. Carolina Herrera on the Red Carpet? Yes Please!

Carolina Herrera on the Red Carpet?  Yes Please!

Carolina Herrera has been one of New York’s finest fashion designers since 1980.  Most of your favorite stars from the big screen have strolled down the red carpet wearing her magnificent dresses including Sofia Vergara, Uma Thurman, Jessica Alba, and Olivia Munn.  Perhaps because of her Latin American background, it’s not surprising that her most popular looks are made up of vibrant colors and loud patterns. We Love Fashion Designer Rachel Roy!

We Love Fashion Designer Rachel Roy!

Although there are a ton of designers who are dominating Vogue, Glamour, and InStyle this year, Rachel Roy is by far my absolute favorite!  In addition to using bright, fun, and exciting colors, she’s not afraid to mix and match bold and funky patterns in order to create a unique look.  She brings back classic fashion trends and makes them relevant with today’s appropriate styles; for example in her line Rachel, by Rachel Roy, she introduces the Delphine Dress – a casual mini-dress made of crushed velvet that features pockets and a bell shape (the perfect dress to wear to the beach on your day off, out on a day-date with that guy from next door, or even to your English Lit 101 class this Thursday). We Love Alexander McQueen!

We Love Alexander McQueen!

The fashion world was rocked to its core when it discovered that Alexander McQueen had taken his own life. So young, so talented, so influential…such a waste! It was truly devastating. Thankfully, his brand lives on through the flawless work of Sarah Burton who was named the new creative director. Her work is now world renowned, especially after receiving the prestigious honor of designing royalty’s wedding dress.

Kate Middleton (now, Duchess of Cambridge) – who had designers lining up for miles to design her dress – chose Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, a clear nod to the prestige and timelessness of the design powerhouse. Burton also designed Pippa Middleton’s bridesmaid dress, a gown that had the head of every male suitor across the planet turn in unison; a dress that had fashion stylists wonder which sister looked best despite the obvious – it was Kate’s big day! We Love Versace!

We Love Versace!

One word that I am pretty certain every girl knows is: Versace. One of the biggest fashion houses in the industry, the brand has been creating cutting-edge and innovative designs since the company was born in the 1970’s. Brought to life by Gianni Versace, his first women’s line under the Gianni Versace Company was shown in Milan in 1978. Ever since then, the fashion world has required a dose of Versace’s unique designs and creative styles. Throughout Gianni’s years of success, he received international praise for always releasing novel and head-turning designs. In 1988, his unique cuts and vibrant-prints were recognized as he was awarded the Cutty Sark Award for the most innovative and creative designer in the world. In 1997, just at the peak of Versace’s success, Gianni was tragically killed. His younger sister, Donatella, took over the business and has led the company even higher up the fashion totem pole. Designer Profile: Alexander Wang

Designer Profile: Alexander Wang

Three words come to my mind when I think of Alexander Wang: Oh my god. In my opinion, he is totally one of fashion’s it designers and pretty much everything he creates is ultra chic and cool. His mission statement for his label reads, “Anyone can get all dressed up and glamorous, but it is how people dress in their off days, that are the most intriguing.” He really knows what women want and he always makes sure that we get our dose of rocker, tough-girl chic. Incorporating a street style aesthetic mixed with glamour, which he refers to as his “model off-duty” look, lends him to producing truly wearable designs. So how did one of the youngest fashion iconic designers land himself on top of every fashionista’s lust list? Read more

Christopher Kane Spring 2011 RTW Reviewed

Christopher Kane Spring 2011 RTW Reviewed

As I flipped through my Elle magazine a few months back, I distinctly remember seeing Christopher Kane’s fluorescent lime, pseudo-lace suit grace one of their features. After bearing witness to one minimalistic ensemble after the next, one neutral hue paired with additional neutral hues; like Miuccia Prada’s spring collections (including Miu Miu), I was invigorated by the vivacity of his designs.

What appears like a plethora of lace suits is actually leather with a vinyl coating. At a mere glance you’d never know and there’s something quite fabulous about that fact; it plays into the overall festiveness of the collection. Neon skirts, jackets and dresses – some with playful and intricate patterns and others with unified color – dominated the runway; there wasn’t a single pantsuit or pair of shorts to be seen.
