Crochet Fashion Trend

Crochet is no longer just for doilies, unsightly table clothes, and baby shoes. In fact, when your grandmother mentions that she’s making you something for your approaching birthday, you may not have anything to dread! Alright, perhaps that took it a little too far…unless your grandmother is related to Karl Lagerfeld, you should probably still plan on acting like you’re stoked.

With the big guns like Emilio Pucci, Chanel and Issey Miyake leading the way, crochet’s bad rep is slowly dissolving; in its wake is a new, highly evolved status that’s so prestigious, all the celebs are endorsing it. Hot commodities such as Leann Rimes, Kate Bosworth, and Selena Gomez are wearing the trend in a variety of styles. Floor length dresses, itty bitty cover-ups, and cropped shirts are popping up all over Hollywood looking delicate and intricately hand woven (even if it’s not). Read more

We love Chanel!

We love Chanel!

I can’t tell you exactly when it happened – it feels more like something that has always been a part of me. My love affair with Chanel, everything Chanel, is what I am talking about. I remember my first purchase from a Chanel boutique like it was yesterday. I was out shopping with my mom at the age of eleven or twelve, and I walked out of the store holding a red shaded Chanel lip gloss. It was all I could afford at the time, but I felt as if my entire life had changed. I doted around that lip gloss for months, wearing it daily and showing it off to anybody who would listen. And while I still can not afford anything more than just cosmetics and nail polish from the beloved brand, my Chanel piggy bank will one day accumulate enough for me to make a bigger purchase. My Spring 2011 Fashion Favorites

My Spring 2011 Fashion Favorites

I’ll admit that while I follow trends extensively for the blogs that I write for and my own intense personal interest, I don’t adopt as many as you would imagine. Even for someone such as myself, who is pursuing fashion as a career, can’t have them all; there simply isn’t enough time and resources. I choose my purchases wisely and while I’m prone (like most people) to indulge in a little impulse buying, I try to keep my trendiness to a happy middle ground.

With that being said, there’s no doubt that I have my favorites this spring, some of which I own and others that I aspire to. I recently bought a pair of high-waisted, flare legged jeans, shelving my skinny jeans for the moment to give this hot new trend a go. I personally love this look paired with a billowy blouse, tucked in with a colorful thin belt. Speaking of thin belts, I’ve strayed from my typical chunky belts for a more hip-hugging, slender variety which was a heavy staple throughout Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks. Read more

Haider Ackerman to take over Chanel?

Haider Ackerman to take over Chanel?

The name Haider Ackerman has been buzzing around my ears a lot lately. Up until recently, I was not too familiar with his work nor did I pay much attention to his collections during fashion week. However, I was definitely missing out. Haider Ackerman, who is originally from Columbia, launched his womenswear label back in 2001. Prior to this, he actually studied in Belgium at the Royal Academy of Antwerp and worked as an intern for John Galliano, where I am sure he learned a lot of his techniques. He has become known for his abstract work with leather and for his avant-garde aesthetic. His designs are full of edge, but that is not the only thing that has sparked a huge interest in him by so many. Read more

Paris Fashion Week Fall 2011 Highlights

Paris Fashion Week Fall 2011 Highlights

Looking at Paris Fashion Week Fall 2011, I was captivated by several of the collections and I fell in love with my favorite and beloved designers all over again. Karl Lagerfeld has never disappointed me and he amazed me again this season. Chanel had a very dark and dramatic feeling to it and also appeared to be menswear-inspired. I loved the combination of grunge mixed in with the polished tweeds, as well as the combination of the androgynous elements combined with shredded chiffons and distressed leggings. There was cropped and cuffed trousers, which I took notice to because I loved the combination of the slim pant-leg with a huge folded-over cuff.

Another collection that I always love every season is Dior. The color palette was filled with rich jewel tones such as emerald greens, sapphire blues, and dark amethysts. There were lots of layers and combinations of lavish textures like velvets, furs, cashmeres, and leathers. Long capes draped over the models and their faces were hidden with huge, floppy hats. Spring 2011 Galaxy Star Fashion Trend Alert!

Spring 2011 Galaxy Fashion Trend Alert!

Get your head out of the clouds…and move beyond into the stars! Take a tour of the galaxy, soar past Mars, and flip circles around Uranus. Get inspired by Halley’s Comet, funneling black holes, and brightly lit stars. After your jaunt in the outer limits of space, venture back home, and settle back to reality. You’ll hold fond memories and you’ll miss the experience but rest assured you’ll have something to remember it by.

Clothes and jewelry wrapped in stars and galaxy-like prints are popping up in spring collections. Christopher Kane’s 2011 resort is brimming with celestial prints on dresses, skirts, cardigans, and skirts. They’re dark and mysterious yet playful and explorative. I’d love to dress one of my brothers in Kane’s button up men’s sweater with evening skies and shiny bright stars but I’m afraid they aren’t that adventurous. Read more

New HandBags for Spring 2011

New HandBags for Spring 2011

Purses, handbags, messenger bags, whatever it is that you call them, they are arguably a girl’s favorite accessory item (just so you all know, I consider shoes a wardrobe staple not accessory!). Not only are they necessary, where else are you going to put your wallet, keys, compact; they can completely add or take away from any ensemble. Have you ever seen a girl walking around wearing a bright pink shoulder bag with say purple pants? I have, not a pretty sight. Or conversely, a slouchy hobo style printed purse could give a jeans and tee shirt combination a fun grunge stylish type of look. There are many ways to wear your perfect bag, and luckily, it looks like spring 2011 is full of fun new styles!

Probably my favorite new purse trend is a smaller more coin purse type style bag. Our purses get filled up with so much junk these days, this is a quick and fashionable solution. The styles shown here are from the spring 2011 line from Emilio Pucci, and notice the elaborate fringe detailing on all of them, also very big for spring! These styles can be bright, fun, and most importantly, super convenient! Read more
