Fall Winter Trends

My Favorite Fall 2010 Trends

Fashion has always been a huge part of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way. From doing extra chores in 6th grade so that I could buy that juicy couture velour tracksuit jacket to praying to the fashion gods Louboutin and Westwood to deciding to move to San Francisco in order to study fashion, it pretty much revolves around my life. With all of the love and obsession, comes the clothes, the trends, and the basics.

Oh, the many hours upon hours that I have spent filling up my closet with the latest styles and must-haves. I have definitely done my part for the economy through my shopping habits. Yet, with all the new clothes I continue to buy, it seems I always fall back on my favorites that I simply can not live without. I bought this gray and white button-up shirt dress about a year ago from H&M and I initally did not think much more of it than it was cute. But it soon became a favorite of mine that I have incorporated into a million different outfits. I can wear it belted, or with tights, with boots or sandals, with a scarf or with a hat. And with each different way that I wear it, it takes on a whole new look. Another item I can not live without is this pair of Steve Madden black, buckled motorcyle-boots. I initally decided not to buy them, but I then gave in when I constantly thought about them for days after. Thank god I did, because I have worn them  countless times and they now have a worn down sole to prove it. They are my go to boot because they can make any outfit look that much cooler, and they are extremely comfortable. And I can’t forget about my favorite pair of red Dior sunglasses – I never leave the house without them!

Two of my favorite trends this season are chunky knits and military inspired pieces. I have been lusting over knits and army green constantly. I just recently ordered a cream, knit jumper from Topshop and am anxiously waiting for its arrival in the mail! Another fall trend I currently love and am wearing is the high-heeled hiking boot. I actually bought a pair when I was in Los Angeles this summer in the fashion district. I could not wait to come to San Francisco where the weather would be cold enough to wear them. They look great with tights and I can not wait to wear them with my jumper!

With all of the trends, we also of course need our trusty classics that we can pull on at any time. One of my favorite classics that will remain in my closet forever is a Silence and Noise black blazer. You can never go wrong with a blazer and it is easy and great to dress up or dress down. Another classic that I will keep until I wear it out is a Theory white button-down shirt. It has just enough pattern detailing to make it interesting and stylish, but still simple enough. When it comes to classics, I would recommend to invest in them and buy a high quality product. Classics will hopefully be worn and loved forever!

Lady Gaga Gray Hair Trend? Will You Try It?

Lady Gaga Gray Hair Trend? Will You Try It?

I have been extremely excited to try out most of the fall season’s latest trends, but there remains one that I am certain I will not be jumping on the bandwagon for: gray hair. Hmm, this gives a whole new meaning to premature aging, don’t you think? I can admit that it can look cool and I like it on others, but I don’t think that I have the guts to personally pull this look off.

For years and years, men and women have dedicated their time and their money on trying to hide any signs of gray hair, but what was out is now in! I believe that this trend was born last year on the runways of Gareth Pugh and Giles Deacon, where models with full heads of gray paraded down the runways. And then in January, models wore streaks of gray in their hair at the Chanel couture show and gray-headed beauties were again seen at the Proenza Schouler spring 2010 shows. This daring trend has caught the attention of many and has indeed been embraced by a few risk-taking celebrities. On the August cover of Vanity Fair, Lady Gaga, a trend-setter of all kinds, showed off some lovely, long locks of pastel gray. Now if Lady Gaga is doing it, I think it’s safe to say it’s a trend! Model Kate Moss celebrated her new Longchamp line in Paris sporting subtle gray highlights. A few other celebrities such as Kelis, Kelly Osbourne, and fashion blogger Tavi  Gevinson have all been seen wearing this trend.

I think that this trend will be more widely embraced by a younger population, who do not actually have to worry about growing gray hair. It is definitely a statement maker and will require a lot of confidence to make it. Will this look go mainstream and be the end of one of fashion’s biggest donts? Only time will tell, but for now I am keeping my golden locks!
