Style Stars
Olivia Wilde is our Style Star
Olivia Wilde’s star has been seemingly on the rise for some time now. Flash back to when she was making out with Mischa Barton on ‘The OC’, to her current big time blockbuster, ‘Tron’, Wilde has been steadily working in Hollywood or quite some time. It is a wonder in that sense then, that she has not gotten crazy famous until about right now. An absolutely stunning beauty that Megan Fox once said she would, “wrestle an ox for”, it is about high time she started getting some recognition. Not only is Ms. Wilde a surprisingly good actress, she exudes a sophisticated and playful style that has become her signature.
Case in point, this form fitting pant suit (yes it’s a pantsuit!), worn with some serious gladiator heels. We don’t often see green on the red carpet, and if Olivia is one thing, it is refreshing. The two tone top and slightly A symmetrical bottom of the suit are a nice couture contrast from one another. She did the right thing in keeping her accessories down to one chunky fabulous necklace, and her hair casual and down, and up do may have looked too severe. Read more
Pippa Middleton is our Style Star
Kate Middleton has been the talk of the world since the moment she started dating Prince William. She walked down the runway at a university fashion show in that now famous dress by Charlotte Todd and the rest was history. She’s now living every woman’s dream. Their wedding in April was one of the most talked about events of the century; Kate looked gorgeous, William looked handsome…and Pippa stole the show?
Wearing a stunning, white cowl-neck bridesmaid dress (that really could have been a wedding dress in-it-of-itself), Pippa showed off her slender figure and stole the hearts of people across the world, especially the hearts of young eligible bachelors. Dubbed “Her Royal Hotness,” that now legendary dress has made us appreciate Kate’s lovely sister in a whole new light; her fashion sense now scrutinized and emulated by every style conscious woman everywhere. Amanda Seyfried is our Style Star
The world first caught a glimpse at the adorable, Amanda Seyfried, in the movie Mean Girls alongside Lindsay Lohan and super talent, Rachel McAdams. She played Karen Smith, a gorgeous teen in a group called the Plastics. She was the designated airhead, often at a loss for words, always two-steps behind, and lacked any meaningful direction of her own.
In reality, Seyfried is anything but stupid. She’s managed quite a career for herself over the last five years. With movies such as Chloe, Mama Mia, Letters to Juliet, Dear John, and Red Riding Hood under her belt it’s clear she’s moving towards a long and prosperous acting career. Along with that – as we’ve seen from many up-and-coming A-listers – her sense of style has shone through, demonstrating to the world that she’s not only gifted, but fashionable. Read more
Florence Welch is our Style Star
Even if you don’t know her full name yet, you undoubtedly know Florence and the Machine, the musician responsible for the mega hit ‘Dogs Days are Over’. Well, her name is Florence Welch, and it may be a good idea to get used to it, not only does the British talent have a unbelievable voice, she has some seriously great style. Perhaps one of the most famous redheads around right now, Ms. Welch seems to have staying power, lucky for us, for we can steal some fashion inspiration from her!
Florence is seen here looking every bit rocker lovely. Her simple white lace top worn over a black and white slip dress are great compliments to each other. I’m so glad she chose not to wear the dress alone, it looks much more funky with the layering going on. Her chunky black combat boots only add to the eclectic style. It also might be hard to not look good with that vibrant hair color, she is definitely eye catching! Read more
Olivia Thirlby is our Style Star
Olivia Thirlby’s most memorable role to date has probably been that of Ellen Page’s best friend in, ‘Juno’, which is quite an impressive credit. With a ton of independent movies under her belt today, Thirlby can definitely be called an indie queen, next to the likes of Chloe Sevigny and Zooey Deschanel. Thirlby’s likeness to those two doesn’t stop there, because her personal style could even rival their own. True to her indie roots, Olivia is eclectic yet brings a simple cuteness to her ensembles.
Take her adorable tea length lace frock shown here. The stripes certainly make the garment different, but adorable and demure nonetheless. Olivia’s lack of accessories and natural hair only compliment the look, making it look a bit effortless even. Her black peep toe heels give the look a little retro vibe and only add to the outfit’s appeal. Read more
Rihanna is our Style Star
Well, what to really say about Rhianna? She is one of the biggest superstars in music today, collaborating with everyone from Fallout Boy to Eminem, and a number one artist in her own right. Conversely, she is also famous for her personal life, as many celebrities are, but we are not here to talk about her controversies, or domestic disputes, but rather, her amazing sense of fashion. Nothing that Rhianna does, fashion wise, is ever safe or boring. She loves fashion, does it big, and obviously has a ton of fun with it; which is completely how every girl should be when it comes to her wardrobe!
An example of her said ‘big’ style would be this interesting combination of silver metallic bubble sleeved shirt and pink mini skirt. The top, of course, is the statement piece in this ensemble, and almost takes away from the oversize silver necklace she is also wearing, but it works! Her elastic banded pink skirt is the perfect partner piece for this top, because it is not as loud. She could have gone with black or white on the bottom, but hey, Rhianna rarely plays it safe, the color combination is what makes the outfit so interesting. Her signature pompadour makes the outfit look even more avant garde! Read more
Taylor Swift is our Style Star
These days it seems that Taylor Swift is getting more attention for the guys she dates and her cute signature style. Well, when you date Jake Gyllenhall, that is just to be expected; and as for Taylor’s style, that definitely merits attention all on its own. You would think with Taylor being arguably the biggest country superstar around right now, that she would adhere to the regime of country style, jeans, boots, plaid button down? No, for one she does not live in Texas, and there is no doubt about it, the girl can dress! Taylor’s style is slightly eclectic, with her surprising fashion choices once in awhile, but as a whole, the twenty year old prefers a more classic more American style; something we haven’t seen too much of lately. Yes, Ms. Swift’s style is thoroughly refreshing; here are some examples! Read more

Isabella Blow is our Fashion Icon
When I announced to my current job that I would be going back to school for my MFA in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising, they were exceptionally gracious about it. Shortly after was holiday break and one of my bosses went out of his way to purchase a thoughtful gift for me, three fashion-related books: a gorgeous YSL coffee table book and two biographies on the legendary, Isabella Blow.
I immediately started in on one of them because admittedly, I didn’t know much about her. She had been credited for discovering the likes of Philip Treacy and Alexander McQueen but as I read on I realized that there was much more to this international style icon; she was a true talent and transformed how we view fashion today, pushing the boundaries more than most could ever dream or dare to.
